Friday night I made my first ever pie and my mac and cheese so all I had to do was put it in the oven on Saturday. I feel I am getting a lot wiser as I age, it took a lot of the stress out of Saturday by preparing these the night before. Saturday I ventured out to the mall to return something and it was a mad house [apparently everyone is already Christmas shopping except me]. It just confirmed my suspicions that I should never venture out of the house for Black Friday. I left the mall frazzled, sweaty, and exhausted. Saturday night the festivities ensued with fried turkey [so yum!], sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, rolls with homemade cinnamon butter, green bean casserole, stuffing, cranberry sauce, salad, cheesecake, and pumpkin whoopee pies [so good making them for the family thanksgiving too]. Everything was so yummy and so filling. Let's just say we watched the sad let down of an OU football game with very full tummies.

Chocolate Cream Pie. I am not a big pie person. BUT this was so delicious that I might just be able to say I am a pie person after all.

Decorating a table is almost my favorite thing about Friendsgiving.

holidays are near [!?!]

One. It is hard to believe that it is November. Two. It seems crazy to think about the holidays being near. I love the holidays but usually they come and go so fast it seems like a blur and I don't fully enjoy them like I should. Three. I am going to try and make sure this isn't the case this year, thus I am already finding myself looking at Christmas decorations, gift guides and recipes.

Something I stumbled upon recently is this most amazing gift guide by Emily Henderson. She was a winner of Design Star a while back and now has a show Secrets From a Stylist which I LOVE. So of course I LOVE this gift guide too. Basically I would be happy receiving anything in it. That's how good it is!

Seth and I did a lot of spending time with friends and eating while we were in NY. My other favorite part of our trip was all the amazing stores we went into. Talk about inspiring.

Brooklyn Flea - So awesome. We arrived right at the end of a down pour so a lot of the booths were packed up or just reopening. What a fun place to walk around, look at people's amazing vintage finds and handmade items. There was also a small little area of yummy food stands.

Madewell - If I could this store in it's entirety, I would do so. Everything was so beautiful, so classic, so wearable, so lustworthy.

Topshop - This store was a little overwhelming but everything in there was beautiful. There were especially tons of clothing with sequins and lots of beading...which i adore.

Muji - I wish I could organize my whole house with stuff from this store. Our purchases here were sort of random: a calculator, a note pad, and a clock. They have binders, pens, notebooks, bathroom goods, kitchen goods, clothing...a little bit of the most basic of everything.

Catbird - This was in Brooklyn and it quite frankly made my heart skip a beat. The most beautiful displays of jewelry, stationary, knick knacks, perfume, and the list goes on. It was pretty busy when we went which made it hard to look around but if it wouldn't have been so packed full of people I could have been in there for hours [quite a statement considering how small the store acutally is].

A&G Merch - Beautiful couches, accessories, jewelry, art, quirks for the home, etc. Like heaven for the hip home body.

Smith & Chang General Goods - This was in Jersey City and it is officially my favorite store. Every I turned I was drooling over something. Soaps and lotions, Glassware and awesome kitchen stuff, light fixtures, furniture, paper goods, and on and on and on. They are launching an online store in the next few weeks. This was the 2nd to last place we went before boarding our plane and it made me realize something I think I have been trying to deny for a while now....that I want to have my own store someday. Dreaming of my own store and what it would look like - it would be a combination of Catbird and Smith & Chang.

Started the weekend off with 2nd Friday Artwalk at STASH.
Broncho show @the Deli.
Saturday I hung out at the Buffalo Lounge for the Myriad Gardens Grand ReOpening.
Made a pitstop at a thrift store on my way home. Scored some super neat stuff including an umbrella that is making me so happy.
Went home, napped with the little man, went back to the Myriad Gardens with Seth. Checked out Oklahoma's newest grocery store...Whole Foods!
Football, Friends, Beau Jennings show @the Deli (yep, twice in one weekend).

Last night I was craving something sweet but our cupboards are void of sweets except for the gigantic tub of vanilla ice cream left over from the last time we made strawberry shortcake [I always over estimate the amount we need]. Well I improvised and made myself a little treat.

Last week at this time Seth and I were in a row boat in Central Park having the time of our lives. Time flies when you're with people you adore in a city you love.

Pies-n-thighs...believe it or not is also known for their donuts. scrumptious! Seth ate the Rob Evans which was a homemade biscuit with egg, cheese and a healthy dose of sausage gravy. I had the chicken biscuit, typical chicken biscuit only with some sort of awesome hot sauce. Great way to start the first morning of the trip.

Oak Wine Bar. We were here celebrating the upcoming marriage of Kristin [pretty lady in the veil] and had some great fun while we were at it. The food was delish, we drank pomspritzers, all the while it was pouring rain outside. This was a great night full of lovely ladies, lots of laughter, and yummy drinks. Before dinner Katie [or was this Elliott?!] made some crazy awesome sangria...I didn't even know I liked sangria and now I can't stop thinking about it.

Frankie's Spuntino. My mouth is watering just thinking about this. The atmosphere combined with the apetizers, the meals, and the wine makes for a perfect date night. I ordered the sweet potato ravioli in a parmesean broth and Seth ordered what else other than the gnocchi [his favorite]. Owned by two guys named Frankie. Love it. They have a cookbook out that I need to own!

Well. Tortilla flats. Great food, margaritas, and BINGO. Also where Seth and I drank too much tequila before our first kiss. This was like a walk down memory lane. No one at our table was getting close to Bingo but at some point they pushed pause on the game and Seth got a free shot for having the most of something drawn on the back of his Bingo board...something unmentionable. We were also so lucky to eat a birthday dinner with Rachel Slaton. Great night of course!

This is an amazing drink they custom made for me at The Rusty Knot. This place is so cool. Down by the river, has a sort of beach vibe with glass buoys, tiki dolls, and rattan furniture. Micheal, Seth and I all ventured on after Tortilla Flats. I ordered my standard tequila lemonade with salt, they don't have lemonade so they made me a fancy homemade lemonade on the spot. It was delish. Doesn't it look like that little mermaid is relaxing in a hot tub. Seth and Michael both ordered 'a rusty knot' which was a frozen mojito. yums.

We tried to go to the Boom Boom Room [top of the The Standard Hotel] but as luck would have it they are closed on Monday nights. We ended up at The Standard Grill drinking wine and eating dessert. Milk and cookies and a brownie with a scoop of ice cream, almonds and what I think was caramel. So great. We had great converstation and allowed ourselves to get uncomfortably full.

We were so happy we ate here. Even though we had eaten a rather large breakfast at Egg only hours before, with our luggage in tow we rolled into Best Pizza and shared a slice. It was so satisfying. The walls are adorned with paper plates all the walls that people have drawn, written or scribbled on. We actually barely talked because we were so caught up in reading all the plates [and of course pointing out our favorites]. We decided we couldn't leave NY without eating some pizza. We were very full but very very happy.


Oh Beechwood. How I love[d] Beechwood. When we lived in Jersey City this was our go-to restaurant. They have a great brunch and an even better dinner menu of classics and it is BYO. We used to get a couple bottles of wine and hang out here for hours. Penne al Pesto is my favorite. Actually if you want to know this is where my love of pesto began. Now I eat it on everything! [This made me really sad, my stomach was almost instantly upset after eating this. sigh.] Also where we realized how amazing hummus is. Seth always orders a bowl of their chili which is the biggest bowl of chili ever. We sat outside and got to take in all the Jersey City happenings. Something I sort of didn't realize I missed.

Our trip mostly revolved around what food we were eating and the people we were so lucky to spend time with. But we did make it into some amazing shops, and I mean uh-mazing! I'll tell you my favorites at another time.

Since my last post:
I turned another year older.
Reorganized my work room.
Dustbowl Fall 2011 has come and gone.
I made some beautiful jewelry for a bride and her bridesmaids.
I am an inch away from being a 'certified' wedding coordinator.
I have coordinated two weddings.
Read three books.
Got a new perfume.
Started juicing.
Celebrated my one year anniversary with the husband.

Last couple of months haven't been too shabby.

Things that are happening currently:
Going to the Big Apple in a couple of days...couldn't be more excited about this!
Planning a Dustbowl Christmas.
Working on a business plan and logo and business cards, etc.

Exciting stuff.

Little Porter and Petra got fixed this week. They are feeling a lot better now but Tuesday night (the night of the crazy storm) we ate pizza with Petra right next to us and she didn't move. She wouldn't even lick my pepperoni grease laden fingers. This is not like our Petra. They were so sweet though and only wanted to snuggle. This is where Porter climbed up and took a nap for a while. Cutie Patootie.

scenes from the weekend. This seems to be about the only thing I commit to posting every week. Note to self: need to work on posting other things.

Started the weekend out with a room switch-a-roo. It feels good. Both rooms still need a lot of work, a coat of paint, and....probably a dance party to make them legit.
The dogs did a lot of snoozing and snuggling with me this weekend. Something that made me very happy.

I love this wedding dress. The length. The texture. The fit. And I love the veil. What a fun little pouf. Glamorous and simple. The whole look has a vintage flair to it but at the same time reads modern. Love it!

It is from the most recent season finale of Brothers & Sisters. Luc's mother, the mother of the groom, also had a killer outfit on but I can't seem to find a good picture of it!

Well after too many months to mention how many it has actually been Seth and I finally put our thank yous in the mail yesterday. Quite honestly they have been almost finished for almost as long as we have been married. I guess it is what it is. Seth now knows I am not the best at getting mail sent.

Eventful weekend.

1. Seth and I cooked this meal on Thursday night but ate the leftovers all weekend long. I love it when something is so good you can do that. Cilantro lime rice, beef burritos and Sonny's salsa.

Sonny's Salsa

4 cans petite diced tomatoes

1 - 2 onions diced or chopped

2 medium jalapeño peppers diced

2 cloves garlic crushed

1 bunch cilantro

1/2 or 3/4 cup vinegar (usually raspberry)

1/2 or 3/4 cup sugar or Splenda

Use the juice from the tomatoes and the vinegar in a blender or food processor to mix the sweet and cilantro. Add altogether and put in bowl and enjoy. Measurements are not exact so taste and fix to your liking.

*We have been halving the recipe and it still makes enough for us to eat it for days. Also we have found it a little hard to find raspberry vinegar and started using pomegranate which is equally as good.

2. We saw this beauty while parking at Pepe's to watch the Thunder game and the CD release show. Made me happy.

3. CD release show for Brine Webb. O You, Stone Changeling is an amazing album and I would recommend you give it a listen.

4. Ate lunch at Midway with some friends that I don't get to spend enough quality time with. We ate outside and basked in the sun for a while, made for a lovely Saturday afternoon.

5. Sunday we cooked out and watched the OKC Thunder win the series against the Grizzlies. Yummy food and lots of fun.

6. Porter is really cute chewing on his chewstick. Looks like a cigar. It literally takes 10 times longer for him to finish than Petra, never fails she ends up trying to steal his from him.

7. #memphisischubby became our quote for the series. Sparked other hashtags on Twitter such as #collison cares & #bestbrook. I don't know if I will ever love Twitter as much as I did during this series with all the crazy hashtags going around.

*not pictured: Beth's low-key bachelorette party. I guess I don't have any pictures because 1. I forgot my camera and 2. most of the night was full of debauchery that shouldn't have been documented anyway.

This is my booth. Still obsessed with black & white stripes....probably will be until the day I die.

Earrings. I would have gladly kept any pair of them.

Table of jewels.

The Wall [which has made appearances at other Dustbowls as green] was painted with chalkboard paint and I simply drew shapes to frame the jewels. Seth also made me those cool white branches [I think they resemble antlers and I love it] that were adorned with more jewels.

We also painted different trays chalkboard and wrote little notes on them.

This is how I hand out my business cards. Business card + Pistachios = yummy marketing ploy.

This was one of my favorite necklaces. And what do you know?!?! It was the first thing to sell.

Cool table. My theory is that it used to be used for different kinds of paper..but it holds necklaces quite well.

Chalkboard globe!

Changed up my display this go around. I was really happy with how everything turned out. My umbrella stand was a dud and for this I have a slight sun burn. Dustbowl overall was a success and it got me all revved up for the August show and all the cool things we keep envisioning to make Dustbowl even cooler.

I know this is a little late being that the weekend was almost 72 hours ago. But with Norman Music Festival and Dustbowl taking place this was an excitement filled weekend. My 'scenes' were mostly full of Pistachio goods but other things included seeing a lot of amazing bands [mostly at the Blackwatch Stage], seeing friends & family [my sister and her boyfriend came to visit], dancing my bottom off, and watching basketball.

Oh the jewels. This is a pair of earrings that sold but I wish they were mine so I am pretty sure I am going to keep making them. Check the Pistachio shop sometime next week to score yourself a pair.

This is a flower corsage. Reusable for whatever you want. They came with little customizable tags [i.e. World's Best Mother, Bride-to-Be, Birthday Girl...]. But I am excited to wear one with an outfit, any outfit without the customized tag.

I heart my friends.

Sometimes when life starts to feel overwhelming there is no better medicine than visiting with someone about what is going on in their life. [Try this sometime if you are looking to be inspired.]

Today I am talking about Reese. He is a father, a husband, a friend, a treasure hunter, and a shop owner. Plus he is pretty awesome at all things he puts his hand to. His warm and cozy, full-o-treasure, everywhere you look you discover something amazing shop, Wild Hare Beadery, has been undergoing a lot of changes [of course for the better, duh!]. There is no more navy blue, what were they thinking when they installed it, carpet. No more mismatched awnings. No more costume jewelry. Everything in the shop seems to be placed with thought and it all keeps getting better by the minute.

I will tell you that two things have stayed the same and these things are the most comforting thing about Wild Hare. 1. Reese. He is always the same, concerned for your happiness, loud laugh, dance if you need to smile, crazy awesome jewelry designer. Which leads me to the second thing that doesn't change - 2. his jewels! If I had a bottomless pit of money I would buy a new necklace [Shit! Let's be honest - I'd buy five] every time I go in. His jewelry is always evolving but you can always count on a necklace that is going to make your heart swoon.

On this particular day he was just putting up the first of his tintype necklaces. Little pictures that are printed on pocket sized pieces of tin. They were so pretty and carry a feeling of nostalgia.

Reese had no idea he was in this picture.

Last week we had an impromptu taco and basketball night. Everything was delicious. But our [new] favorite thing was the spicy corn fritters. They were delicious.

I mean! Out of a magazine right? We added a little bit of red pepper flakes to the batter so they were mildly spicy. Oh man! They were crunchy, sweet, spicy and so yum. The recipe has a dipping sauce but calls for rice vinegar and we had issues finding that at Target and then never made it anywhere else to look so we skipped the sauce but next time we make these we are making the sauce because I can't imagine these getting any better but if they did I would guess it would be because of that sauce.

Topped with black beans, guac, hot sauce, and green onions. We also dipped them in spicy ranch [so ghetto, I know] and salsa, both were rather good.

I also think for you vegetarian folks this would be good on a hamburger bun with some lettuce, tomato, cheese and barbeque sauce...just sayin.

This weekend Seth and I found ourselves in McAlister, OK. This is where Seth spent a good chunk of his childhood growing up. We spent about an hour and a half driving around town and Seth pointed out all his old hang outs [which were mostly canals, wooded areas or soccer fields]. He also drove me by his old house which was something to see because he used to live inside the gates of a prison. His dad was the Warden at Jackie Brannon. He has so many fun stories surrounding this time in his life. He rode his bike everywhere. I got to see where he had his first kiss, where he used to watch prisoners mow his grass, how big his dad's garden used to be. So many of these stories screamed small town honesty and trust. I don't know if I will be able to let our kids ride there bikes anywhere other than our street and I don't know that I would just let them wander around the woods behind the cool kid in town's house. It made me think about what things I didn't tell my parents when I was growing up and how things have changed so much since we were young exploring the world. I wonder how much more it will change before we have kids that are doing their own exploring.

Loved this old theater.

This is the old high school. Seth told me stories about being bussed over there for advanced classes. He discovered secret spiral staircases in the round sections of the front of the building. He also explained that this is where he first realized he loved old buildings.

We drove through 'Old Town' which is the original part of town that backs up to the railroad tracks. Most of these buildings had antique shops in them. I am dying to come back and discover lost treasures.

McAlister is known for the prison rodeo that happens once a year. They have a couple of these statues of prisoners riding a horse or a bull around town. I am going to the rodeo this year, no question about it.

This was Seth's house growing up. I have heard so many stories about this house, it felt so good to finally lay eyes on it. We couldn't get very close to it because all the prison gates were closed.

This is a [not very good] picture of the state penitentary. It was so interesting seeing this. Jackie Brannon and it are actually separate prisons just basically on the same grounds. Jackie Brannon is a minimum security prison where the inmates take care of chickens, tend to the gardens, and get to play baseball [inmates even took care of Seth's yard]. I think I found all of this so interesting because it was a huge part of Seth's life but something I knew nothing about when I was his age. Seth always tells stories about his dad taking him and his friends on tours of the prison...I bet there is no better way to scare a kid into behaving.

This is the sunset from over the hills of the prison grounds. Prisons have pretty sunsets too.

Seeing all these memorable places in Seth's life made me think about the memorable places in my life. It made me realize how important it is to me to have roots.

In past months, years even I found myself wishing and/or wanting things I know I can't have. A friend recently said "you can have both, you just can't have them at the same time." Seems a little unfair. Life isn't fair though. And if life doesn't turn out the way you want you really only have yourself to blame. --- All things I know to be true, doesn't mean it can't suck though.

This is my [running] list of things I want to do in my life:

eat whatever I want [including gobs of cheese and loads of cookies]
be skinny [or at least healthy]
live on a farm [aka own chickens, wear wellies a lot, have a field to run in]
live in a cool loft in a big city
live in a modern home with a great view
have an voluptuous outdoor space [with a dining area and a hammock]
eat meals out of my own garden
be an amazing cook
buy, refurb, and sell old furniture
plan/carry out crazy, awesome, exquisite events [weddings included]
own a lamp shop
be able to pick flowers out of my yard to create breath taking arrangements
live without a care in the world
be responsible
have a short bob [haircut]
have amazing, luscious long locks
be glamorous
be the kind of person who always feels great in a sweatshirt
be content after a day filled with nothing
never be content because then I would never be growing as a person
make amazing, huge, beautiful hair accessories
make jewelry and purses
make cloth napkins and table cloths and cake stands
own a pecan orchard
have roots/traditions
have small, quaint vintage home store/ stuff you can rent for parties store
live on a beach [or any body of water]
live on a whim
be a baker who makes beautiful cakes
own a big huge empty barn to have parties in
take risks

This weather makes me want to lay out in a hammock to read or nap. I searched around the web dreaming of which lovely hammock I would like to purchase.

Of course the one I am lusting after the most is the one that would put the biggest dent in the ol' bank account.

I also love this luscious cotton hammock.

And I am girl crazy for black and white stripes so I would take this one too!

Maybe I should get all three, that way I have hammock parties!

Tim Elliott is showing at STASH Friday, April 8th for 2nd Friday Artwalk! Tim takes old paintings and turns them into new pieces of art by painting new things into them.

I am mildly obsessed with his art and so happy that he will be at STASH in a little over a week. The 2nd thing that I am mildly obsessed with is the poster he made for the art show.

If you know Tim then you noticed that he put his face on the man in the middle (and check out the stashes on all the ladies). Love it!

hot air balloons.

I think I have always had a secret obsession with hot air balloons. I used to doodle them all over my notebooks in college. Maybe it is that they don't really make sense to me. How does a flame make the balloon float? How do you make a basket so strong it can hold people in it? How does one land properly (without anyone flying out of said basket)? Oh and I cannot forget to mention how beautiful they are!! Is there anything else man made that floats in the sky that is so organically beautiful??? No you say? I didn't think so!

Well, I think I have decided that I want to take a ride in one. My first thought was that I should have put this on my list of things to do before I turn 27. Then I thought again because where does one go to ride in a hot air balloon? How much will this set us back? These are things to consider before committing myself to do this in less than 4 months. I think I am going to add to this my running list of things to do before I turn....let's say 30?!

I stumbled upon this beautiful photo of hot air balloons. The artist combines photography with digital painting. I guess I don't know what that means but whatever it is is good. I saw this post a while ago and decided to make my own list of things to do. I wrote it, put it away and promptly forgot about it. I found it recently and being that my 27th birthday is 4 months from tomorrow I decided I should get to it.

The list:
1. read more books I have been reading a lot of books about small business but I want to read a book I can't put down.
2. re-organize work room to be more inspiring
~~3. get Petra a playmate~~ We have the crazy cute Porter!
4. have a picnic
5. rebrand Pistachio
6. invent "Archive Events"
7. have a 'recipe' date with the husband weekly   We are failing at this miserably.
8. paint my nails more often
9. send my friends & family more physical mail
10. have a 'dip party'

It was quite fun sitting down to make the list. It made me think about all the things I always talk about doing but don't follow through with. This gives me a deadline. I am excited to keep marking things off the list. Wish me good luck...4 months isn't that far from now.

thrifty thursday

This past weekend we made it to a thrift store. Something that doesn't happen that often anymore. I used to be a crazy, mad, insane thrifter (i missed a plane one time because of it....like I said...insane!). In my opinion, we hit the jackpot. The kind of jackpot you didn't even know you were looking for.

This mailbox is going to look awesome when (and if) we ever get our porch renovated. A coat of paint and presto! That little knob on the top actually twists and to retrieve your mail the entire front of the mailbox opens...so cool!

These are placemats. Not sure what we will use them for. maybe to serve cheese and crackers or something like that...they were just too pretty to pass up.

These two were my faves.

Holy moly. Me oh my. This was by far my favorite find. We had already checked out when I saw this sitting on the top shelf all by its lonesome. I knew it had to be mine. The tags around the decanters read "BOURBON" & "VODKA." Like I said - me oh my! The middle decanter was ours previously (the set came with a round decanter that didn't look like it belonged so I decided this one went better). I love this. I can't wait to put some cups in that tray and use it!

This decanter was one of the things we purchased during our first check out. Pretty cool with the stripes going down the side!

This is a scarf that I picked up. I am considering making this the summer of silk scarves.

MY LIFE SCOOP has pretty useful things for everyday life. Stumbled upon it on another blog I frequent. Loved this article 20 Gadgets for the DIYer.

I would really like 5 & 7 here (in case anyone wants to spend way too much money on me for no reason). This is for crafters but there is a section for home improvement and woodworking. Perfect for us. I am a crafter (so to speak), Seth and I both attempt home improvement projects and Seth loves wood!

Went to a reception to celebrate the marriage of Shane & Emily Wasson (Emily is Liz's younger sister). This picture was the dessert table, so LOVEly!
Dinner at 747 where they gave us free dessert for no reason at all!
Fin & Feathers grand opening! Great Great new stuff! Favorite thing was the custom designed shirts by local artists. (the one pictured is my Margaret Kinkeade. Love it!) I'll post more on this later!
It looks like I got bit by a vampire but really I was only assaulted by a staple. Just a tad bit painful...
